These photos of the blooming yellow & orange cactus flowers were taken at  Fort Richardson State Park in mid-May. This state park is thick with cacti which is a nature lover's delight. Because the cacti experience so many stages of beauty, the experience is like a revolving door.

Fort Richardson State Park - The Cacti Fruit

The next stage of the cacti will be the sweet fruit. Although picking of the fruit is not allowed in state parks, this delicacy is something that one must try at least once in life. Look for ripened cactus fruit at your local market, or nearby specialty market year-round. The added perk for processed cactus fruit is that the disabling spines have been removed.
