Fort Richardson State Park, Jacksboro Texas - Pictures of Hiking Trails

The hiking trail below leads to a series of trail systems threaded throughout Fort Richardson State Park in Jacksboro, Texas. All hinge upon the creek that generally ripples through the area which we are happy to report is now filled with water, compliments of the Texas spring rainshowers.

Be watchful of snakes. Rattlesnakes, copperheads, coral snakes and water moccasins are part of the Texas hiking experience and one should always be alert for such when hiking the back trails.

As a note, I was recently taking nature photos and directly to my right was a rat snake poised from a tree branch, not a foot from where I stood taking photos. Although non-venomous, a snakebite of any type can be traumatic, particularly when one is terrified of snakes (like moi). But take note, because snakes are vital to our environment. In the wild, they keep the rodent population in check - just for starters. And snakes are quite beautiful.
