Pictures of  Fort Richardson State Park - Officer's Quarters

The Officer's Quarters at Fort Richardson more aptly mirrored the era of the civiliation where simple pleasures were enjoyed. A sign by the State Historical Survey Committee is posted on one of the Officer's Quarters that reads:

"Built in 1867 of lumber cut from cottonwoods growing in nearby river bottoms. One of 5 original Officers' Quarters. Outlasted Fort's barracks and stables, which were built of small vertical timbers (pickets).

Style tpyical of 19th century Army posts in the West. Only one left standing in the U.S.

Among men quartered here was Gen. Ranald S. MacKenzie, who sent Indians back to reservations, 1871-1874.

Restored by City of Jacksboro. Maintained by Girl Scouts.

Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1964"
