CAMPING - CAMPFIRE
GRUB - OH FUDGE!
This recipe was fired up when
Tom and I were stranded without anything sweet in sight. It's very
tasty, takes only a few minutes to prepare and is foolproof.
Before heading out on your
camping trip, seal up a bit of cocoa in a bag. Bring along a large
bag of powdered sugar as well.
Take 1 stick of butter and
melt over campfire in thick skillet. Be careful that butter (or
margarine) doesn't scorch.
Quickly add 1/2 cup of powdered
cocoa and 1/2 bag of powdered sugar and 1 cup of chopped walnuts
or pecans.
If mix is too runny, add a bit more powdered sugar. If
unworkable, add a few tablespoons of milk (made from powdered milk)
and return briefly to
the campfire until workable.
Fudge hardens swiftly so pour
into buttered pan that has a two-inch lip. Slice shortly after fudge
hardens. I would imagine that Hershey candy bars would substitute
nicely for the cocoa.
Over time we have discovered that
this recipe works better in cooler temperatures than during warmer
weather..
