CAMPING - WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS
A few sunsets and sunrises ago, Tom and I hit the road on the spur-of-the-moment camping trip. The day was prettier than a mirror framed with gold-painted macaroni.
We slid into the campgrounds, got the tent in place and set out on a walk though the woods. The wildlife was all a-flitter, and that should have spoken volumes to Tom, a rather seasoned camper. Me, I was still a greenhorn camper at that time, but was learning fast!
A nursery of raccoons were heckling and hawing - making noises that I didn't knew existed. Tom has raised a raccoon or two in his lifetime.
Nonetheless, we headed back to our cozy campsite, rather pleased that there weren't many campers on board for the evening.
As we fired up our camp stove, a wild wind blew in from the north, one that instantly chilled us to the bone. We managed to slip into our tent just before the rainstorm hit. No lightening, mind you, or we wouldn't have rooted up in the tent.
Buckets and buckets of rain fell - so much rain that we were holding up three fingers and going down for a final time before it finally quit. The tent was so flooded that a gaggle of geese could have swam inside. Oh well, the raccoons tried to warn us!
