EDIBLE WILD MUSHROOMS -
MUSHROOM HUNTERS
I think that I will never see,
a mushroom that I wouldn't want to
be.
Mushrooms are natural works of
art! They grow so quickly that if you stood gawking, you may actually
see certain species of mushrooms grow.
With
so many mushrooms around, it's difficult to properly identity the
species for edibility purposes unless one is a pro at such. Although
I've studied mushroom species for many years, and I'm certain about
several varieties I've happened upon while mushroom hunting, I just
can't bring myself to eat and devour. To market, to market, said
I....
Nonetheless, mushroom hunting
is a thrilling sport that can be enjoyed by most anyone brave enough
to face the brambles, poison oak & ivy, stinging nettles, spiders
and snakes laced into nature. Don't forget to take along your camera
with your firstaid kit...
A few edible mushrooms include:
Chicken of the Woods, Giant Puffballs (best when young), Tawny Funnel
Cap (slightly acidic with tough stems), Saffron Milk-Caps (mild
tasting), Penny Buns (great! make soups ultra tasty, too), Jew's
Ear, Honey Fungus, Sheep Pollypore, The Prince, Lawyer's Wig,
Covered Earthstar and Pig's Ear Gomphus.
