PACKIN POOCHIE - Preparing for that Great Outdoor AdventureAs I discretely watched with a smile fastened on my lips, something in the background captured my attention. Through the torn screen of the bait house, a red truck stood in the distance, the bed stacked about three feet over the cab. Either Jed Clampett had landed or…could it be…Greenhorn Campers? This assumption was suddenly verified when the father of the redheaded trio told the cashier, "This is our first camping trip and I was wondering if you could recommend a good spot to set out our tent?"
The cashier scrubbed his left hand over his chin, a thoughtful look applied to his face. "First time camping, you say? Are you sure you have everything that you'll need?" Realization struck. The cashier was the store's owner - not a doubt in my mind! I watched as he masterfully played the Greenhorn Camper, casually loading the counter until it sagged, every now and then grumbling, "Yeah, you'll need that for sure. Oh! And this." "Honey, I think we'll take the pink one," Tom suddenly told me, drawing me from the trance. "The spider's just a bit too busy on the camouflage." I offhandedly nodded, then took a swift inventory of the items stacked on the counter for the Greenhorn Camper. Amid the stack was a lighted key chain in the shape of a fish (the light projected out of the fish's mouth), a 4-tiered tackle box, a red flyswatter shaped like a foot, a fishing seine, and three other items that I was unable to identify. |
