TRAILHEADS - HIKING - NATIONAL
WILDLIFE REFUGE
Our favorite National Wildlife
Refuge is a gem located near Lawton, Oklahoma called the 'Wichita
Mountains National Wildlife Refuge'.
Canyon walls, clear streams, tiny
waterfalls (although seasonal), a prairie dog city, elk (don't miss
mating season and bugle calls), a bird sanctuary, and one of the
nicest nature centers that we've ever visited are just a few of
the things you'll discover at the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife
Refuge.
You can hike up Elk Mountain,
go scuba diving, or hike back in the boonies to see beautiful lakes
and mountainsides.
There is also a Holy City constructed
of rocks that is ultra impressive. Doris campground is within walking
distance of Baldy Mountain where you can see the sunset before you
break out the campfire.
Don't skip the nearby community
of Medicine Park - a cobblestone village of sheer delight!
